The 7 Chakras and the Stones That Balance Them

Fifth Element |

If you’ve ever seen a rainbow row of stones laid from base to crown, you’ve seen the chakras at work. In yogic and spiritual tradition, the chakras are seven energy centres running from the base of the spine to the top of the head — each tied to a colour, a theme, and the crystals traditionally used to balance it.

A quick, honest note: the chakra system is a traditional and spiritual framework, not a medical one. Use it for reflection and ritual, not as health advice.

Here are the seven, root to crown, with a stone for each.

1. Root — Red Jasper or Black Tourmaline

At the base of the spine, the root chakra is about grounding, safety, and feeling settled. Deep red and black stones — red jasper, black tourmaline, garnet — are traditionally used to steady it.

2. Sacral — Carnelian

Just below the navel, the sacral chakra governs creativity, pleasure, and flow. Warm orange carnelian is its classic pairing — energy and creative spark.

3. Solar Plexus — Citrine

Above the navel sits the solar plexus, the seat of confidence and personal power. Golden citrine and tiger’s eye are traditionally kept here for warmth and self-assurance.

4. Heart — Rose Quartz or Green Aventurine

At the centre of the chest, the heart chakra is love, compassion, and connection. Rose quartz and green aventurine are the gentle stones traditionally tied to it.

5. Throat — Lapis Lazuli or Sodalite

The throat chakra is about expression and truth. Blue stones — lapis lazuli, sodalite, blue lace agate — are traditionally used to support clear, honest communication.

6. Third Eye — Amethyst

Between the brows, the third eye is intuition and insight. Amethyst is its classic companion — calm, clarity, and inner vision.

7. Crown — Clear Quartz or Selenite

At the top of the head, the crown chakra is connection and higher awareness. Clear quartz and luminous selenite are traditionally placed here for clarity and openness.

How to use a chakra stone set

The simplest practice: lie down and place each stone on or near its chakra, base to crown, then rest for a few quiet minutes with slow breathing. A pre-matched seven-stone set makes this easy — the colours are chosen for you, so you can just lie back and follow the order above.

New stones are traditionally cleansed first — here’s how. And if you’re new to all this, start with our beginner’s guide to the 7 starter stones.
