Justice Tarot Card: Meaning, Reversed & Symbolism

Fifth Element |

Card XI of the Major Arcana, Justice is the sword and the scales — truth, fairness, and the clear-eyed consequences of our choices. Here’s what it means upright and reversed, its symbolism, and a crystal to pair with it.

An honest note: tarot is a tool for reflection and storytelling, not fact, prediction, or legal advice. Read it as a mirror, not a map.

Justice at a glance

  • Number: XI
  • Keywords: truth, fairness, accountability, cause and effect
  • Sign: Libra

Symbolism

A crowned figure sits between two pillars, scales in one hand, upright sword in the other — the sword double-edged, because truth cuts both ways. Unlike blindfolded courtroom statues, tarot’s Justice sees clearly: this is conscious, honest weighing.

Upright meaning

Truth wins — act with integrity and stand by your choices. Decisions made now should be fair, informed, and honest; what you set in motion returns in kind.

Reversed meaning

Unfairness, avoidance of accountability, or being harsher with yourself than the facts deserve. Reversed, Justice asks: where is the account not yet honest — with others, or with you?

In love, work & spirit

Love: balance of give and take; honest conversations. Work: contracts, decisions, and doing the right thing even unobserved. Spirit: karma in its simplest form — cause meeting effect.

Crystal pairing

Lapis lazuli — the deep blue stone of truth spoken clearly.

Your house, your energy.
