The heart chakra is the bridge of the whole system — where the grounded lower chakras meet the higher, spiritual ones, and where love flows in both directions. Here’s what it means, the stones traditionally used to balance it, and a simple way to work with it.
An honest note: chakras and crystals are a spiritual and metaphysical tradition, not medicine. Nothing here is a health claim — it’s meaning and ritual.
What is the heart chakra?
Known in Sanskrit as Anahata (“unstruck”), it sits at the centre of the chest. Its colour is green (with a soft pink association) and its element is air. It governs love, compassion, connection, and forgiveness — for others and yourself.
Balanced vs. blocked
In the tradition, a balanced heart chakra is described as feeling open, warm, and able to give and receive love freely. When it’s out of balance, people describe feeling guarded, lonely, resentful, or unable to let others in. These are energetic descriptions, not diagnoses.
Crystals for the heart chakra
- Rose quartz — the classic stone of love and self-love.
- Green aventurine — gentle heart-opening and luck.
- Rhodonite — compassion and emotional healing.
- Malachite — deeper transformation at the heart.
How to work with it
Rest a heart stone at the centre of your chest. Picture a soft green light there, breathe into it, and silently affirm: “I give and receive love freely.” A moment of gratitude or forgiveness is a beautiful heart practice.
Your house, your energy.
