There are 13 new moons in 2027. The first is in Capricorn on 7 January and the last is back in Capricorn on 27 December. Two of them are solar eclipses: an annular eclipse on 6 February in Aquarius and the long total solar eclipse on 2 August in Leo. Below is every date, time and sign, with a manifestation theme for each one.
An honest note: new moon intention-setting is a spiritual tradition for reflection, not fact or prediction. The dates are astronomy. The intentions are yours.
About the times: each new moon is listed in UTC and US Eastern time (EST, UTC−5, until 14 March, then EDT, UTC−4, until 7 November). Depending on your time zone, a new moon can land a day earlier or later than shown. Many people set intentions within a day or two after the exact new moon, once the first sliver of crescent is on its way.

Manifestation themes for each 2027 new moon
7 January: New Moon in Capricorn
Start the year with structure. Set one long-term goal for 2027 and the first small, boring, reliable habit that supports it.
6 February: New Moon in Aquarius (annular solar eclipse)
A "ring of fire" eclipse on a new moon in Aquarius. Intentions around friendship, community, originality and the future fit well here. Astrologers often suggest a light touch at eclipses, so observe more than you force.
8 March: New Moon in Pisces
Dreams, intuition and compassion. Keep a dream journal for this cycle, or set an intention to rest without guilt.
6 April: New Moon in Aries
The fresh start of the astrological year. Pick something brave and begin it this week. Aries energy favours action over planning.
6 May: New Moon in Taurus
Money, comfort and the body. Set a calm, specific intention around saving, earning or caring for yourself physically.
4 June: New Moon in Gemini
Words, learning and connection. Start a course, a journal or a conversation you've been putting off.
4 July (3 July in the US): New Moon in Cancer
Home and family. Plant intentions around your living space, emotional safety and the people you call home. It arrives the same day Mercury turns direct, so it's a good time to restart a stalled plan.
2 August: New Moon in Leo (total solar eclipse)
The headline event of the year. Leo is about creativity, joy, confidence and the heart. Think about how you want to shine over the next six months, then write it down and let it develop slowly.
31 August: New Moon in Virgo
Health, routine and service. Choose one daily ritual, like a walk, a tidy-up or ten minutes of stillness, and commit to it for one lunar cycle.
30 September (29 September in the US): New Moon in Libra
Balance and partnership. Set intentions around fairness, beauty and the relationships you want to deepen.
29 October: New Moon in Scorpio
This one lands just after Mercury retrograde ends, which makes it good for deep renewal. Choose one fear or habit to transform rather than simply avoid.
28 November (27 November in the US): New Moon in Sagittarius
Adventure, study and faith. Set an intention about travel, learning or trusting the bigger picture.
27 December: New Moon in Capricorn
Capricorn closes the year as it opened it. Review what you built in 2027 and set the foundation stone for 2028.
The two solar eclipses on 2027 new moons
A solar eclipse can only happen at a new moon, when the Moon passes directly between Earth and the Sun. In 2027 that happens twice. The annular eclipse of 6 February (greatest eclipse 15:59 UTC / 10:59 am ET) crosses South America and the Atlantic to West Africa. The total eclipse of 2 August (greatest eclipse 10:06 UTC / 6:06 am ET) brings around six minutes of totality near Luxor, Egypt. Never look at the Sun without certified eclipse glasses. See Eclipses 2027 for where to watch and how to stay safe.
How to set a new moon intention
- Get quiet. Five minutes of breathing, a candle and your phone in another room.
- Write in the present tense. "I am…" or "I choose…" works better than "I want…".
- Keep it to three. Fewer intentions get more of your attention.
- Add a physical anchor. Many people hold a crystal such as clear quartz or citrine while writing, then keep it on their desk.
- Check in at the full moon. Two weeks later, look at what has grown. Our Full Moon Calendar 2027 has every release date.

Frequently asked questions
How many new moons are in 2027?
Thirteen. Capricorn hosts two of them, on 7 January and 27 December.
Is there a solar eclipse in 2027?
Yes, two: an annular eclipse on 6 February and a total eclipse on 2 August. Both fall on new moons.
Can you see the new moon?
Not really. The Moon is between Earth and the Sun, so its lit side faces away from us. You'll see the thin crescent a day or two later.
Should I set intentions on an eclipse new moon?
Many astrologers say to keep eclipse intentions open and flexible, more "I'm open to…" than a rigid plan. Follow what feels right to you.
